Using Wildcards in Metric Definitions, adding regex to get just segments with letters rather than anything?

We have used the wildcard option for metric definitions, however, we have a need to separate segments that start with a letter rather than a number.

Is there a way to add regex to data metric name segment interpretation?   (if not, this would make a great feature).

e.g.

We have this metric name, which works well,

hostname/Custom Metrics/SpecialApp/somename/component/*/metricname

However, we want to filter out all the "*" segment values that numbers rather than text string names.

Is it possible to do something like this?

hostname/Custom Metrics/SpecialApp/somename/component/[a-z]*/metricname

We actually tried this and it doesn't work. It seems the interpreter fails. Any other ideas?

Hi Walter,

Unfortunately, there is not a way to achieve the use case. I feel it's a wonderful enhancement. You can sign in to the community and go to the “Idea Exchange” section to resubmit your feature/enhancement request.

^ Note by @Ryan.Paredez the Idea Exchange is currently only available for AppD Customers (non-trial or lite users) at this time.  If you do submit an idea on this topic, please do share the topic URL as a reply to this post so others can see it and engage with it.
