When I run ClamAV with the C agent compiled in, I get an error:
$ terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error' what(): locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid ^C [1]+ Exit 134 sudo .libs/clamd
In case it helps:
$ uname -a Linux ip-10-13-49-75 3.13.0-48-generic #80-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 12 11:16:15 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ locale locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LANGUAGE= LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_TIME=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8" LC_PAPER=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_NAME=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_ADDRESS=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_TELEPHONE=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_MEASUREMENT=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_ALL=

I found a solution
Debian:
$ apt-get install locales && dpkg-reconfigure locales
Ubuntu:
$ apt-get install locales
$ locale-gen en_US.UTF-8
$ update-locale LANG=en_US.UTF-8
$ reboot
