Hi,
First thing to check is how your BT detection rule is configured?
The default for asp.net or WCF call marks or records a unique BT as service.operation name, for other calls, its the number of URI segments. I would suggest you check that first and make sure the configuration is the way you want.
Next step, if you see more than expected BTs, you can do either a grouping or write exclude rules to exclude certain types of BTs.

Hi Joe,
From my knowledge about service end points, AppDynamics automatically detects the service end points and we can also write some cusotm match rules to detect a service that is not automatically detect but i dont think that this will be independent of the BTs.
Service endpoints only gives additoinal metrics at the service level and not add more monitoring.
everything that is monitored under service endpoint is always under the context of the business transaction(s) that are being monitored.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Gurmit.

If you are the AppD admin for your controller, i would assume you would also have the ability to login to controller database and write a query to pull all the nodes that are being monitored, it also indicates the type of node/agent etc, you can dump that to csv and it works 🙂
Thanks,
Gurmit.

Hi Udyan,
You can include the javagaent.jar as a argument in the startup script the argument should -javaagent:/path/to/jar/javaagaent.jar
For your approach, did you make sure that this is a valid path?
D:\monit\AppDynamics\AppServerAgent-4.4.0.17833\javaag ent.jar
Thanks,
Gurmit.

Sundar,
Does not look like its stopping, i see another PJO call also recorded.
perhaps you need to talk to the App SME to deintify the flow and go from there.
or the other things you can do is, disable all the default excludes and see if you get more information on the call graph.
Thanks
Gurmit.

Hi sundar, I think what you need is to include more packages in call graph details. Please check the following option App - configurations - instrumentation and then Call Graph Settings You can see what all is excluded by details and you can set configs to include package of your interest. Keep in mind, depending on the numbers of packages and classes you add, you may see some over head, always good to test such configs before doing config changes in production. Thanks Gurmitsa

Hi anzianojackson, Yes that is what i meant and we have this in place already, we monitor server.log and if there is not activity for some set time then we send out alerts. When you say add-on, not sure what you mean? As this is something on the splunk side so should be a splunk add-on or deployment app. Thanks, Gurmitsa

Hi Vishnu, yes, you are correct.
In that case you will have to use some third party tools or write a custom script.
Quick and easy solution is to write a shell script that runs every minute and looks for the controller process (may be ps -ef command) and as soon as there is not output, it will send email to the intersted parties.
Above is assuming that the controllers are on Linux.
Do you have any other monitoring tools that are being used with in your environment?
If you are using SPlunk for log monitoring, may be you can set monitors on the controller server.log and trigger an event if there are not entries in the log for a set duration.

1 Kudo
You can login to controller with your admin user by following the instructions here
Once logged in, change the URL in the browser to the regular controller UI, what you see if your own controller UI being monitored, now you can set health rules, thresholds, alerts etc on the metrics being recorded for your controller.
Cheers,
Gurmit.

Have you tried logging in with the admin account?
login to admin.jsp by following the instructions on this page https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO42/Access+the+Administration+Console
Once logged in, change the URL in your browser to the regular controller UI, you will see your own controller as the app being monitored and you can setup alerts, health rules etc for your own controller app.
Cheers,
Gurmit.
