For users who want to see every customer journey and interaction with real-time business monitoring, AppDynamics is offering Business iQ (BiQ). The following article outlines how to implement Business iQ for AppDynamics version 4.4.x.

Additionally, see License requirements for Business Journeys (Biz iQ) for more information on BiQ licenses.

Table of Contents

Requirements Checklist

  1. Events Service requirements prior to installation:
  2. Agent configuration:
    • APM or RUM: For Transaction/APM BiQ, configure APM with the App Agent. For Mobile BiQ, configure RUM using the JavaScript agent.

    • Analytics Agents: Required for all types of BiQ setup.

  3. Port requirements:
    • SaaS: For SaaS-based installations, the connection between the Analytics Agent and the Events Service in the cloud takes place over ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS).
    • On-premise: Default ports used by the Events Service are Events Service API Store Port: 9080 and Events Service API Store Admin Port: 9081.

  4. Analytics Agent:
    • For both SaaS and on-premises Application Analytics, deploy (or enable) agent-side analytics components in the application environment, the default port being 9091.

Implementation

Installing the Business iQ components:

  1. Install the Event Service.
    • Documentation: Events Service Deployment

    • Single-Node Events Service installation: In a single node Events Service deployment, the Events Service runs on a dedicated machine. The Controller and other Events Service clients can connect directly to the Events Service node or through a load balancer.

Note: This is not recommended for Production environments. The Controller also includes an embedded Events Service instance used by the Database Visibility product by default. However, the embedded Events Service is not meant to be used with production Application Analytics or EUM installations.

    • Multi-Node Events Service installation: A multi-node cluster is made up of three or more nodes. With a cluster, the Controller and other Events Service clients, the EUM Server and Analytics Agent connect to the Events Service through a load balancer, which distributes load to the Events Service cluster members. More information: Multi-Node Cluster.

  1. Install the Analytics agent:
    • Chose from:
      • The Analytics Agent that is shipped with the Machine Agent,
      • Or use a standalone Analytics Agent. This can be found on the download site.

  2. Configure the Analytics:
The last step is to configure the analytics module you want to monitor; Transaction Analytics, Log analytics or Browser Analytics.

For customers looking to learn how to implement BiQ On Premises, as well as setting up the Controller for High Availability, using the Enterprise Console, installing Agents and more, it would be worth considering taking official AppDynamics training.
