Can we instrument Oracle Applications using Java Agent

Anant P.Nayak
Producer

Hi,

I want to know if we can instrument Java Agent (4.3.7.1) for Below Oracle Applications:

  1. Oracle Financial Services Analytic Application right - 8.0.4 (jdk1.7.0_151 or jdk1.7.0_161)
  2. Oracle Business Intelligence 12.2.1.0.0 (jdk1.8.0_152)

I have gone through the below link for Java Agent Support but did not found the support for above Applications.

https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO43/Java+Supported+Environments

Kindly let me know on this. Thanks

Regards,
Anant

Hi Anant,

Though it is not supported as per the doc but you can give a try and let us know if you face any issue.

Java agent should be instrumented . We can define custom configuration if required.

Please refer to the below docs

https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO44/Install+the+Java+Agent#InstalltheJavaAgent-javaagentresou...

https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO43/POJO+Entry+Points

Thanks,

Atyuha

Hi Atyuha,

Thanks for your reply.

I believe, In this case we need to use Java Agent - Sun and JRockit JVM instead of Java Agent - IBM JVM.

Also can you let us know how we can load the Java argument in these Oracle Applications JVM. In these Application we don't have server.policy nor we are much aware of the JVM startup file.

Anant

Hi Atyuha,

We have raised a Support ticket (#134403) and checking on this.

we have one doubt.

We could see in the documentation that without restarting the Application JVM, we can attach the Java Agent to the running JVM. For this we are specifying the Process ID, what if the Application restarts, it will have new PID, Will the AppD Agent takes this PID automatically and do we have to register the Agent Again.
