How can I Integrate AppDynamics and ServiceNow.

Vinay.Kumar
Producer

I would like to integrate AppDynamics and ServiceNow. I have done the below steps:

Downloaded and install The AppDynamics Data Sync Utility. On Synchronize with the CMDB, I see 4 relationships

1.Tier to Tier
2.Tier to Remote (Remote Services)
3.Tier to Application
4.Node-to-Server CI

For Point 4 it says To use this feature, a Machine Agent with Server Visibility enabled must be installed and running on each host that supports an imported AppDynamics Node. See Machine Agent with Server Visibility.

What if I do not have this license? Can I log the ServiceNow tickets without this?
I want to know what exactly this flag "APPDYNAMICS_SIM_ENABLED" drives.

My aim is to just raise a ticket if some health rule violates in AppDynamics.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi @Vinay.Kumar,

Can you please share what documentation you were reading your listed steps from please?

I sent you a private message and shared some additional resources with you when you first posted this, can you confirm if you got it?

We have this Knowledgebase article that covers ServiceNow integration, please let me know if you find it helpful: https://community.appdynamics.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/How-do-I-use-AppDynamics-with-ServiceNow/ta-p/30...

Regarding your question about "APPDYNAMICS_SIM_ENABLED" I found this piece of documentation, which refers to Server Visibility. You can read it here: https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO45/Enable+Server+Visibility

Hi @Ryan.Paredez

I have followed the mentioned page only to set up my prerequisites for Integrating AppDynamics and ServiceNow. However, I did not see any ticket created in my ServiceNow instance.

The web page you mentioned

https://www.appdynamics.com/community/exchange/extension/appdynamics-servicenow-rest-api-alerting-ex...

is not working. Can you please share with me a page where an example is quoted to create a ServiceNow ticket.

Any information and web page or PDF guide will be appreciated and really help me in using your product in our ecosystem.

Regards

Vinay

Hi @Vinay.Kumar,

Thanks for highlighting the broken link. I've found out that the correct link should take you here: https://www.appdynamics.com/community/exchange/appdynamics-servicenow-cmdb-integration/

On that link, you can find documentation here: https://docs.appdynamics.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=54724098

Please do let me know if this helps.

Hi @Ryan.Paredez ,

This is what I am already following. I shall double-check if I missed something.

However, I like to ask is there any example that shows a ticket being logged in Service now from AppDynamics. What I did so far

1. Created an API user with all roles and permissions in ServiceNow.
2. Download The ServiceNow App from this page
https://store.servicenow.com/sn_appstore_store.do#!/store/application/3671b358db0d2200b141d6fdbf9619...
and install it on your ServiceNow® instance
3. Download The AppDynamics Data Sync Utility available on the AppDynamics Exchange at https://www.appdynamics.com/community/exchange/appdynamics-servicenow-cmdb-integration/
4. Able to Synchronize my AppDynamics and ServiceNow.
5. Set up a health rule to get an e-mail and also log a service now a ticket.
6. I can receive e-mails successfully but no ServiceNow ticket is getting created.
Can you get some more technical help on this to let me understand what else I should have in my AppDynamics
or in ServiceNow instance to get the tickets logged successfully.

Any inputs will be appreciated.

Cheers
Vinay

Hi @Vinay.Kumar,

I found this similar community post. In this case, the integration was not working because of a JAVA issue. Check out the full details here: https://community.appdynamics.com/t5/Controller-SaaS-On-Premise/AppDynamics-and-ServiceNow-integrati...

Let me know if you gain any insight from that pos.

I have already visited all these pages you are referring back to me here.
I need an working example or some technical inputs in terms of 6 steps I shared above.
I appreciate if some SME shed some light on this which will quickly resolve this issue for us.
